I’m not going to add a “Dear”. You weren’t exactly dear to me, in the beginning.
The “bad boy” huh? You really did justice to that image of yours. Bullying, getting constantly punished, degrading people to the utmost, you did all of it. A punishment led you to her. Jamie. You avoided all possible human contact with her, before, except for mocking her on the sweater she wore more than once, tagging your friends along in that act.
Remember, the play you both had to perform together? Remember, how astounded you were by her when she, looking like an Angel on the stage, sang ” You’re my only hope.” You couldn’t contain yourself. When you kissed her, that meant something, we all know it did, Carter. No matter how hard you tried to veil it. You made a pact to not fall in love with her. You promised, rather you scoffed at it, ” That’s not a problem.” And you couldn’t keep that promise.
She believed in you, Carter. Even when you couldn’t do it for yourself. And hey, the three wishes! You got her that. She pined for a Miracle. A tattoo, being in two places at a time, stargazing through a telescope. You built an actual telescope for her! You stood up for that girl whom you had mocked half your life, to your friends. The star-crossed lovers, huh? Well, you named a star after her. That is how much you loved her. We saw it in your eyes. It crushed you to know she was sick. Teary-eyed you mustered up, “You’re eighteen and you are perfect.” That’s how much you didn’t want it to be true.
She was not afraid to die, she was afraid to be without you by her side. She never wanted to change you. She loved you. It was that love, that made you want to be better.
Dear Carter, have no regrets, you were her Miracle. You were always the one Miracle she had been waiting upon. To be by her side, was yours.
Your love was,
“Like the wind. You can’t see it, but you can feel it.”
Someone who would be so lucky to receive love like that. A love that feels like a Miracle.
